Ceramic coatings are in general a kind of brittle material because they predominantly made up ionic crystals that avoid dislocation motion caused by lattice distortion. In this regard, remarkable toughened ZrO2/MgO nanocomposite coating is obtained the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process and in-situ synthesized ZrO2 with quantitative control approach. It revealed toughening behavior related to coordination diversion distortion at metallic oxide interface, which induces distinct interface. The semicoherent interface between m-ZrO2 MgO verified act as buffer realize through slipping induced coordinated Simultaneously, significant interfacial transfer pinning discovered t-ZrO2 MgO, beneficial toughness enhancement coating. results indicate effect occurs along enables novel reach 2.7 times traditional PEO
